Developing the Procurement Strategy and Preparing Its Implementation
Customer Relations & Sales EffectivenessDescription
Introduction
This module enables participants to define and implement a procurement strategy suited to the company’s challenges. It provides methods for analysing supplier markets and guiding sourcing decisions. Participants will learn to integrate economic, risk and CSR dimensions into their decisions. The proposed approach combines strategic analysis with operational deployment tools, in order to strengthen the ability to sustainably drive procurement performance.
This module is part of the programme Building Procurement Excellence: A 5-Step Development Framework.
Objectives
Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:
Identify and select the appropriate strategic sourcing levers.
Make informed decisions by integrating the Total Cost of Ownership and market constraints.
Analyse risks and ensure continuity and security of the supply chain.
Integrate regulatory and CSR requirements into the procurement strategy.
Implement relevant indicators to monitor performance.
Programme
Determining the appropriate strategic levers: Choosing between local, global or multi-sourcing approaches based on requirements and market opportunities.
Evaluating sourcing options through the TCO approach: Moving from analysis to strategy by using the Total Cost of Ownership to decide whether to standardise, secure, or re-tender.
Deciphering supplier market dynamics: Analysing market structure (monopoly, competition, concentration) and evaluating negotiating power and possible alternatives through benchmarking.
Structuring the operational deployment plan: Mastering the four stages of strategy (analysis, questioning, choice, preparation) using management tools such as RACI, reverse planning and budget.
Anticipating and mitigating procurement risks: Identifying continuity or non-conformity risks (PPM) and applying the criticality assessment process to define mitigation measures.
Integrating CSR and regulatory requirements: Applying ESG criteria (Environmental, Social, Governance) and European directives (CSRD) from the strategy phase onwards, including supplier evaluation scorecards.
Monitoring performance through KPIs: Setting SMART objectives and tracking results via dashboards integrating savings, ROI, OTIF and Maverick Spend control (off-contract purchasing).
Target Audience
This training is aimed at anyone involved in procurement (purchasing) as part of their role, whether as a professional buyer or as a non-buyer responsible for managing service providers and suppliers. It is particularly suited to:
Procurement professionals at the beginning of their careers (junior buyers, category buyers, project buyers, contract managers, procurement officers),
HR, Finance, IT, and Operations teams, often directly involved in high-value procurement (e.g. recruitment agencies, payroll tools, IT services, external services),
Project managers, managers, assistants and technicians involved in sourcing suppliers, comparing offers, negotiating and contracting, who wish to acquire concrete tools.
